Privilege News June 2016

Elite Notes from the President
Learn more about 90-day reporting

Sawasdee krab, once again, dear members. Welcome to the June edition of the Thailand Elite Privilege news. This is only the second issue in which I am addressing you directly and I am enjoying myself tremendously. I hope you enjoyed on April issue and have learned more about the 90-day reporting procedure. In line with bringing you more valuable information about living and working in Thailand I am pleased to give you more knowledge. In this issue I’d like to bring to your attention another very important procedure that requires your attention and cooperation to have it completed.

Apart from the 90-day reporting this is equally as important and it is among the first things you have to do after you enter the Kingdom.

It is in accordance to the law that all foreign visitors to Thailand must inform the immigration department of their residence as soon as they arrive at their place of accommodation. It is the duty of the owner of the accommodation be it a hotel, apartment or house to report the location of the visitor. In normal cases when visitors check into a hotel, the receptionist will record your passport details as well as the TM number on the arrival card you fill out. This information is sent the next morning to the Immigration Department of the Royal Thai Police for recording.

Failure to provide your whereabouts will result in you being ineligible for any further requests made with the Immigration Department, such as an extension of visa, 90-day reporting, or other procedures. There is also a fine of 2,000 baht for the visitor and the owner of the accommodation having to pay a fine between 2,000 baht to 10,000 baht.

If you stay in a reputable hotel you would not have to worry about this being done because it is part and parcel of the hotel’s duty to their guests. However, if you are unsure it is always a good idea to check with the management of the accommodation or even do the reporting yourself. This can be done by logging into the website of the Immigration Department and download the form, fill it out and send it back. It’s that simple!

Should you require more information, you can easily contact the help desk here at Thailand Elite and we will answer any of your questions.

83 Years Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre
Thursday, July 2nd, 2016

For many generations, the enjoyment of life seems to be the true nature of Thai people. Therefore, through time, the evolution of the entertainment industry became another reflection of the Thai prospertity. In parallel, the location to hold Thailand’s artistic performances became as important. At the time, when celebrating the 150th anniversary of the capital city, King Rama VII had a vision to build the Memorial Bridge connecting the districts of Phra Nakhon and of Thonburi. His Majesty also decided to give more than 9 million baht to build a larger royal theatre to enhance Thailand’s reputation.

The construction of the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre began on July 1st 1930. King Rama VII went to lay the foundation stone and was kind enough to let the Serene Prince Samaichalerm Klidakorn, a graduated architect from a high-level institution in France, to design and to supervise the construction. Then, his Majesty named the theater “Sala Chalermkrung” as to honor the designer and to be the memorial of the 150th anniversary of the capital city. It was gracefully inaugurated as the first royal theatre on Sunday, July 2nd, 1933. His Majesty was also kind to name the company which would manage the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre. “Sahasinima” (The United Cinema Company Limited), which means “stronger together”, would be a legacy and symbol of his royal wish.

The Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre holds every form of performances such as movies, Khon, plays, and music. It has been the center of those involved in the entertainment industry up to these days. It is the center for the conservation of National performing arts. During the year 2006, on the auspicious occasion of the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty the King, the Sala Chalermkrung Foundation, in cooperation with the Crown Property bureau and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, have organized a Sala Chalermkrung Khon show and still continue to perform khon shows until today to preserve and to disseminate the Thai cultural legacy. Khon is a unique and distinguished classical art destined to all Thai people and to the entire world. We invite you to appreciate and to enjoy the beauty of the “Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre” and its history of more than a half-century.

KHON : Thai mask dance @Sala Chalermkrung

The Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre now proudly presents a new episode of Khon-Masked Dance entitled “Hanuman”, an excerpt from Ramakien story. “Hanuman” is a white monkey warrior, whose duty is to assist the righteous King “Rama” to fight with the demon King “Totsakan”. The “Hanuman” performance depicts the life of Hanuman since he was born and became valiant soldier who helped King Rama win against Totsakan, and Hanuman was later promoted. This spectacular episode has 60 performers, with elaborate dress specially designed for this specific dance. It involves highly traditional singing, dancing, acting, acrobatics and music.
